For over one hundred years the Cairo Museum has remained the greatest and most important collection of Egyptian artifacts in the world. Established in 1902, the museum now goes by other names including the Egyptian Museum and most relevantly The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities. This museum houses many grand artifacts that draw the attention of locals as well as tourists from around the world. Some of its most famous items include the Mask of Tutankhamun, the Narmer Palette, the Grave Mask of Amenemope, and Statue of Khafra.
This is actually a postcard not within the collection but still created by a major studio that we see prevalent, Lehnert and Landrock, Cairo. In addition to this it’s interesting to notice that it’s not made by the Cairo Postcard Trust, the company that dominates the postcards in this collection that are related to Cairo.
Unfortunately, as historic and important this museum is, it is not being given priority in displaying Egyptian history due to the change in focus to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza. Though it currently remains the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts more and more are being sent to be displayed at GEM instead with the hope to make it more accessible to tourists.
