SPHINX OF GIZEH AND PYRAMIDS
EGYPT, AFRICA
This is the most remarkable Sphinx, a colossal form, hewn out of the natural rock, and lying three hundred feet east of the second pyramid. It measures 172 ft. 6 inches long by 56 ft. high. In front of the breath is a small naps or chapel, formed of three hieroglyphical tablets, dedicated by the monarchs Thomas III. and Ramses II., who adored the sphinx under the name of the "Sun on the Horizon".
